Winning Leadership Is a Team Sport | Mark Calitri on Building The Winning Leadership Playbook

Winning Leadership Is a Team Sport

Most leadership books are written alone.

One person. One voice. One point of view.

This one wasn’t.

This photo was taken while Dr. Larry Bobbert and I were in the middle of writing The Winning Leadership Playbook. No stage. No spotlight. Just two guys at a table, doing the work.

That matters more than it sounds.

Leadership looks good when it’s polished. It looks real when it’s built. Writing this book required trust, respect, and a willingness to stay in the room when we didn’t always see things the same way. Different experiences. Different perspectives. One shared standard.

That’s partnership.

Real leadership work is collaborative. It involves debate without ego. Listening without keeping score. Pushing each other toward something better without trying to win the conversation.

This book came together the same way leadership should operate in the real world. Side by side. Focused. Honest. Willing to challenge and be challenged.

The lesson is simple. You don’t build anything meaningful alone. Results come from people who are willing to work together, carry their weight, and stay committed when it would be easier to walk away.

That’s what leadership looks like when it’s done right.
